Textual Analysis

This is a double page spread of Rwd magazine; the magazine detonates a large long shot image of 4 people (3 men and one woman). The Image is meant to be the black eye pea members - who are an r&b band, however from this image we are able to see that it is focused on one member of the band. The fact that the image had a narrow depth of field with Will I am standing out and the rest of the band faded out shows that this page is all about him. The long shoot shows will I am wearing gold and cream neutral colours with could relate to his statue and power within the band and his power over the readers.

The title of the magazine also shows that it is about will I am by relating his name in the title, the font used is a sans serif font as it relates to the fact that black eye peas are a modern group that make modern music. The font also relates to the colour theme of what will I am is wearing therefore we automatically know it is about him.

Also the image takes up 3/4 of the double page spread so there is little space to write an article about the member. However they make a column with a small Ariel font in enable for there to be enough information on the page. Nevertheless, I get from this that they are targeting young people because they don’t like to read too much or they will get bored, so they have kept the information short and snappy.

The whole composition of the magazine relates to the new  genre of modern hip hop that the black eye peas have created, the colours of gold and cream relate to regeneration on the old hip hop and music, the white background keeps it clean and fresh which also relates to the new music they have created. Also the poses of the band members shows that they want to be taken serious as artist in the music industry.

Overall, i have learnt that I need to send a message about the artists through the composition of the magazine, I aim tot do this by relating the genre to the theme of the double page spread, also I have to realise that my target market are young people therefore, I have to make sure not to write too much and keep it short and snappy.
